National Hospital Cost Data Collection, Independent Financial Review, Round 17 (Financial year 2012-13)1 January 2015
The National Hospital Cost Data Collection (NHCDC) is the primary data collection that the Independent Hospital Pricing Authority (IHPA) relies on to calculate the National Efficient Price used for the funding of public hospital services. To ensure that the quality of NHCDC data is robust and fit-for-purpose, IHPA commissions an independent financial review to assess whether all participating hospitals have included appropriate costs and patient activity.

Define Teaching, Training and Research and Identify Associated Cost Drivers for ABF Purposes —Final Project Report9 December 2014
The Pricing Framework for Australian Public Hospital Services 2014-2015 builds on the two previous Pricing Frameworks (2012-2013 Pricing Framework and 2013-2014 Pricing Framework). For simplicity, where IHPA reaffirmed a previous principle, the supporting argument was not restated in this paper.
The costing study on home delivered dialysis was undertaken in 2014. The purpose of the study was to collate and compare the range of costing studies and economic evaluations that have been carried out on these services over the past decade.
The report identifies two key studies - NSW Dialysis Costing Study, conducted in 2008, and Queensland Health Renal Replacement Therapy Costing Study, conducted in 2008 - which are useful in estimating the current costs of home-based dialysis.
PwC and its sub-contractor The Independent Hospital Pricing Authority (IHPA) engaged PwC and its sub-contractor SyRis Consulting to undertake a review and costing study of Australian radiotherapy services. The study was commissioned to determine the reliability of radiotherapy cost data due to its role in the development of associated price weights in both admitted and non-admitted settings.
National Hospital Cost Data Collection, Data Request Specifications, Round 18 (Financial year 2013-14)29 August 2014
The National Hospital Cost Data Collection (NHCDC) Data Request Specifications (DRS) list the data elements to be submitted to IHPA and include the validation rules which will be applied to the data on submission.
The NHCDC Strategic Review has been commissioned by the Independent Hospital Pricing Authority (IHPA) to assess the NHCDC's suitability as the primary data collection to determine the NEP, seek the views of stakeholders regarding issues with the current NHCDC and its future directions, and recommend a roadmap for the future. This review involved national consultation with 148 stakeholders, to examine positive and negative aspects of the NHCDC through interview and submission.
Submissions were forwarded to IHPA in a range of formats including Word, RTF, PDF and handwritten or typed hardcopy. In order to make submissions available as soon as possible, most submissions have been published in their original format. Handwritten submissions have been scanned into PDF documents. If the content has been emailed to IHPA the text of email submissions has been reproduced in Word format.
This document was produced as an accompaniment to the NEP14 and NEC14 Determinations. It provides the technical specifications for how IHPA developed the ABF models for the service streams to be funded on this basis from 1 July 2014, and provides guidance to hospitals, Local Health Networks (LHN) and state and territory health authorities on how to apply these to hospital activity.
