Three Year Data Plan 2017-18 to 2019-20

National Hospital Cost Data Collection, Independent Financial Review, Round 19 (Financial year 2014-15)
2 March 2017The National Hospital Cost Data Collection (NHCDC) is the primary data collection that the Independent Hospital Pricing Authority (IHPA) relies on to calculate the National Efficient Price used for the funding of public hospital services. To ensure that the quality of NHCDC data is robust and fit-for-purpose, IHPA commissions an independent financial review to assess whether all participating hospitals have included appropriate costs and patient activity.
Non-admitted and Subacute Costing Study

The non-admitted study was comprehensive across a range of settings (e.g. outpatients, community and satellite clinics). Similarly all service streams were included regardless of funding source. This ensured that all services were accounted for and costed appropriately providing an accurate cost of delivering multiple services across multiple settings (e.g. overhead costs are apportioned across all patients).

Home Delivered Dialysis Services Costing Study Report
11 November 2014The costing study on home delivered dialysis was undertaken in 2014. The purpose of the study was to collate and compare the range of costing studies and economic evaluations that have been carried out on these services over the past decade.
The report identifies two key studies - NSW Dialysis Costing Study, conducted in 2008, and Queensland Health Renal Replacement Therapy Costing Study, conducted in 2008 - which are useful in estimating the current costs of home-based dialysis.
Review and Costing Study into Radiotherapy Services

The study was commissioned to determine the reliability of radiotherapy cost data due to its role in the development of associated price weights in both admitted and non-admitted settings.

Strategic Review of the National Hospital Cost Data Collection
8 July 2014The NHCDC Strategic Review has been commissioned by the Independent Hospital Pricing Authority (IHPA) to assess the NHCDC's suitability as the primary data collection to determine the NEP, seek the views of stakeholders regarding issues with the current NHCDC and its future directions, and recommend a roadmap for the future. This review involved national consultation with 148 stakeholders, to examine positive and negative aspects of the NHCDC through interview and submission.

It provides the technical specifications for how IHPA developed the ABF models for the service streams to be funded on this basis from 1 July 2014, and provides guidance to hospitals, Local Health Networks (LHN) and state and territory health authorities on how to apply these to hospital activity.
