Methodology for Determining the Benchmark Price for Prostheses in Australian Public Hospitals

The Independent Hospital Pricing Authority’s (IHPA) primary function is to calculate and deliver an annual national efficient price (NEP). The NEP is a major determinant of the level of Australian Government funding for public hospital services and provides a price signal or benchmark for the efficient cost of providing public hospital services.

IHPA Work Program and Corporate Plan 2021–22

The Independent Hospital Pricing Authority Work Program and Corporate Plan 2021–22 has been prepared in accordance with the requirements of section 225 of the National Health Reform Act 2011 and section 35(1)(b) of the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 for the reporting periods 2021–22 to 2023–24. 

IHPA Work Program 2020–21

As prescribed in Section 225 of the National Health Reform Act 2011, the objectives of the IHPA Work Program are to:

  • set out IHPA’s work program for the coming year; and
  • invite interested persons (including states and territories) to make submissions to the Pricing Authority about the Work Program up to 30 days after publication.

An extract of Section 225 of the Act is attached at Appendix 1.
