The private sector National Hospital Cost Data Collection (NHCDC) is a voluntary collection that produces a range of hospital cost and activity information by the Australian Refined Diagnosis Related Groups (AR-DRG). This report includes the findings from Round 21 (financial year 2016-17) of the NHCDC for acute admitted care provided by overnight private hospitals.
The National Health Reform Act 2011 (the Act), section 131(1)(f), provides that IHPA will determine the public hospital functions that are to be funded in the states and territories by the Commonwealth, except where otherwise agreed between the Commonwealth and a state or territory.
IHPA requires accurate activity, cost and expenditure data from jurisdictions on a timely basis in order to perform its core determinative functions. This data plan sets out IHPA's seventh rolling Three Year Data Plan, covering the period 2019-20 to 2021-22. The Three Year Data Plan specifies the data requirements and timelines that IHPA will use to collect data over the next three years.
The Independent Hospital Pricing Authority (IHPA) is currently developing a new classification for non-admitted care - the Australian Non-Admitted Care Classification (ANACC) - in response to the recommendations of public consultations in 2013 and 2014 on non-admitted care classification.
The NHCDC Report and infographics present the results from Round 21 NHCDC (Financial Year 2016-17).
These documents describe the hospital costs submitted by jurisdictions for the following activity streams:
